Highlanders are one of the oldest registered cattle breeds in the world, originating from the rugged Scottish Highlands. Known for their long hair and hardy nature, they thrive in extreme temperatures — from the coldest Montana winters to the hottest summer days. Their hardiness means less stress on the animals, which translates into better health and, ultimately, better beef.

On the ranch, we share more than land with our neighbors — we share life. One of our favorite partnerships is with Wustner Bees, who place their hives right here on Petty Creek soil. In exchange for the nectar our pastures provide, they gift us with jars of honey that are as wild and unique as the land itself.

After finding the calf weak and alone one too many times, we had to step in. We built a stall in the hay barn, gave him Vitamin B shots, electrolytes, and plenty of warm milk. For four days, the ranch team bottle-fed him, watched over him, and prayed he would make it.
