Sweetness from the Land: Honey at Petty Creek

On the ranch, we share more than land with our neighbors — we share life. One of our favorite partnerships is with Wustner Bees, who place their hives right here on Petty Creek soil. In exchange for the nectar our pastures provide, they gift us with jars of honey that are as wild and unique as the land itself.

Western Montana is full of what some might call weeds — mullen, knapweed, clover, and wildflowers that scatter across the fields. But for the bees, these plants are treasure. The blooms they forage from shift with the seasons, which means the honey they create is never quite the same twice. Each jar is a reflection of the land in that moment — sometimes lighter and floral, sometimes deep and earthy.

We add this honey to our welcome baskets, keep it on hand at the ranch table, and often see it featured in our chef-curated meals. It’s a simple gift, but also a reminder: the land provides, the bees work, and together something sweet is made.
